Acknowledging the Land and It's First Peoples
At the outset, it's crucial to recognize a fundamental truth: the land beneath our feet is, and has always been, indigenous territory. It's a poignant reminder of the ongoing struggles faced by our Indigenous brothers and sisters, the original inhabitants of these lands. Their experiences, both past and ongoing, reflect a history marked by significant challenges and perseverance.
This country has, over time, developed institutions and policies that have contributed to the marginalization and invisibility of Indigenous communities. It's essential that we not only acknowledge this reality but also actively remember and honor it. As we move forward, let us do so with a conscious effort to keep these truths at the forefront of our minds, and in doing so, honor the legacy and the spirit of our ancestors who have stewarded these lands for generations.
In the spirit of truth and reconciliation, I acknowledge that Unique Pathways Counselling services is located on the Indigenous territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, which includes the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprising the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations). The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III.
